From books to MACbooks

Labas, dreamers!!

Spring is finally here and I am not sleepy anymore! I am dreamy and full of energy! I am delighted to announce a new collaboration with beautiful Lisa who agreed to help me with the pictures. So there is some good news: it will get much more international.

It is a quite busy time for me, but I really hope that I will manage to show you more dreamers and dreams. About the photoshooting I can only say that it was the most quiet one that I have ever participated at. But it was totally worth it!! Without any other complaintmants and small talks about the weather (which actually made me incredibly happy), I am more than pleased to present you the next dreamers:Aqua aka Akvile Staniute.

I met Aqua in the first night I moved to England and she turned out to be also the first person from my course that I met. And then, one year later, we moved in together. She is Lithuanian, hence my introduction (labas=hello). Living with 2 Lithuanians makes me think that I will speak fluently by the time we finish university (keep on dreaming, Ana!!).

There are so many things that come into my mind when I think about Aqua. She is that girl who will always buy a new pair of shoes just because she loves to do that. She will always help you get your hair and make up done before you go out. Aqua will nodge when you do something silly but still listen to your embarassing stories. She is also that friend that everyone has and hates because of this: she can eat the whole day and NOT get FAT!!  Aqua is my friend, my coursemate, my flatmate, my daughter (inside joke, as I worry about her and my other flatmates -Hello, Ruta!!- unhealthy eating habbits).

Ladies dreamers and gentlemen dreamers, meet Aqua and her dreams (explained short and clear)!!

1.       What was your dream job as a kid? Tell us more about it.

When I was a kid (probably around 8 years old), I wanted to be a librarian because I really liked spending time in my local library. It just seemed like a really important and cool job to me as you got to be in charge of all the books in the library. Also my favourite film character was Evelyn form The Mummy and she was a librarian in Egypt. As weird as it sounds now, at that time it seemed like a very adventurous job.

2.       What is your dream job now? Tell us more about it.

Now my dream has changed from a librarian to a fashion journalist. For a long time I imagined myself as a journalist. Now the time has come to be more specific about my future career choice, so having a passion for fashion kind of determined my decision. I think it’s a really exciting profession as obviously you get to write about the things you love most.

3.       Where does the dream go? What is happening to the dream of becoming a librarian? Where is your current dream going?

I guess as kids we all have these silly dreams as we see the world in a complete different way. As I said before, being a librarian seemed very adventurous to me and growing up showed that obviously this job doesn’t include hunting down mummies and saving the world. Unfortunately of course…  Also, you start having so many different interests as you grow up and that kind of determines your career choice along the way. My current dream is a lot closer to reality than my librarian one. I am graduating next year as a Media professional (hopefully!) and we’ll see where I get from there.

Thank you for reading! Many thanks Lisa and Newcastle University Library for allowing us to take the photos there!

Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do now know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.

From stethoscope to lenses

Hello, dreamers!

New week, new post, new dreams, new answers.

The dreamer who will respond the question: Where does the dream go? is my best friend and the photographer who is helping me with this blog: Andreea Doria Costin. It feels quite weird to write her whole name as since I firstly met her (almost since I can remember, about 16 years ago) I called her in every way possible. I think that the most interesting thing about her is that her look contradicts her personality. While her look is different, a little bit extravagant, she is actually a quiet and a little bit shy person at the first sight. But it is just a matter of time for her to get to know someone and let the butterfly (her beautiful personality) go out of the cocoon. I will now stop writing and let you meet her and her dreams.

            1.      What was your dream job as a kid? Tell us more about it.
As a child I didn't use to go out much or even have lots of activities that involved other children. I suppose that in a way, I was kind of afraid of them; they were way too noisy and messy and I was also frightened of unknown people. I was allowed to watch TV only about 4 hours a day and my favourite TV channel quickly became Animal Planet. Of course, Steve Irwin's show and Animal Rescuse were on my top list. Seeing more animals and analysing their behaviour in real life and those shows, I started loving animals more and more every day. I also started loving Australia, seeing it as a perfect setting as it is warm all the time and there are animals everywhere (excluding the sharks and scorpions hahaha). When I grew up I've adopted a lot of parrots, turtles, fish, guinea pigs, hamsters, a cat and even two little chickens, that in a couple of weeks became roosters. The both roosters end up tragically as my grandparents cooked them because they were too noisy and messy (I forgot to say that I kept them in an apartment on the 8th  floor). Until today I still didn't eat chickens raised in people's backyards. I have adopted so many pets because of my dream of being a vet. I was sure that a true vet should have lots of animals and take care of them, in order to understand their behaivour better. Later, I also found out that sometimes to help them, you have to cause a little pain (like the use of needles, interventions, pills). In my mind at that time, that wasn't really the perfect picture.

2.      What is your dream job now? Tell us more about it.

In my childhood I was also attracted by photography, as I was taking pictures of everything. Although, I have never thought then that it means something more than that because everyone who was asking me about my future plans, was getting the same firm answer “I love animals and I will become a vet”. But as many things in life, it didn't turn out how I was expecting. I've discovered that I’m really good at something else than offering love to pets. (hahaha). My dream job at the moment is to work for a magazine, maybe a fashion magazine. Also, not long time ago I discovered a new interesting job: director of photography  in a film. It’s a little bit strange that from the shy person I was in the past, I've embraced a job  in which I have to interact with other people. Surprisingly that’s my favourite part!! Communicating and working with others is really fun and after a few minutes of little 'tension' everybody is relaxed, and you feel like you know each other for years, even though you just met them half an hour before.

3.     Where does the dream go? What is happening to the dream of becoming a vet? Where is your current dream going?

The dream of becoming a vet has reduced, but it is reflected through the affection towards animals. I am still watching different shows and documentaries to learn more about them and I hope that with the little  knowledge I have I can give them a hand when they are in need. My present dream is evolving everyday; this year I am finishing  my BA degree in Video and Photography and at the moment I am waiting to see in which country I am going to live the next year.  Regarding my old dream, it has definitely changed, from pets to people, from medicine to arts, and perhaps it was all because of those two roosters.

Once again, thank you for bearing until the end! Also, many thanks to Raluca Margescu for helping with the photos.

Dreamy days and nights!

From tutu to suits

Hello, dreamers!

I promised I will post this story somewhere around Christmas. But here I am, almost one month later, actually doing it. Some things didn't turn out as I wanted to, but it is better later than never.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present you the first person who will try to answer the following question: Where does the dream go?
The first person is a full-time dreamer. She never stops dreaming as she believes that this is the first and the most important step in order to accomplish everything she wants to. I would talk more about her, but it is quite hard. The first person that will answer the 3 questions is… myself. I might say that taking the pictures was a really fun experience! It has also proved me that I would have not been a good ballerina. So probably it was for the best.

1.What was your dream job as a kid? Tell us more about it.

I was about 4 when I started wishing to be a ballerina. My mum enrolled me to ballet classes so I was pretty sure that my dream will come true. I don’t know exactly how has my dream started; I just remember that I wanted to accomplish it really bad. I was dancing everywhere and waiting for the day when I could use toe-dancing for the first time. Even though I don’t remember when it has all started, I remember how it all ended. My mum was keep telling me that I have to eat in order to grow up and become a ballerina. I was a cute chubby kid! (I suppose I really wanted to make my dream come true as I was eating all the time) One day, my cousin and my auntie came visit my family and we were all having lunch. I clearly remember that moment as it was then when my dream started fading away. My cousin was a cute skinny kid. So my auntie decided to brag about how much I am eating and suggested him to take my example. Proud of myself, I decided to share with them the reason why I am eating so much: to grow up and become a ballerina. And then he replied: “You can eat as much as you want, but ballerinas are not fat.” How it all ended up? I didn't eat for about 3 days, as I really wanted to be a ballerina. A couple of years later I gave up on the ballet classes and I have decided to try new things.

     2.   What is your dream job now? Tell us more about it.

Since I was 9 I dreamed about becoming a journalist and having a career in television After I have started my BA degree, I changed up my mind so many times. I know for sure that I want to work in the media and communication field, but I am still not 100% sure of what exactly I would like to do. At the moment I dream of becoming a PR. I like communicating with people, organise events and help people. And in one way or another, this job has all the things I wish for. I must say that when I dream about my career as a PR, I imagine myself having many beautiful suits and being quite bossy and busy. I also like that this job is quite risky, even though some people might not realise that. And I love risky jobs; it means that it will never get boring.

3. Where does the dream go? What is happening to the dream of being a ballerina? Where is your current dream going?

I suppose that my dream of becoming a ballerina is quite unrealistic now. But it definitely didn't die. I am still sighting when I am watching ballet or films about ballerinas. I'm keep telling myself that my kids will practice ballet. So, the answer would be that my dream moved somewhere in the future, hopefully transferred to a close person of mine. Regarding my current dream of having a career a PR, I hope is going into the right direction as I am currently studying to become one. Probably this two occupations don't have much in common, so I can't say that my dream has transformed, it has completely change. But if I still carried on something from that dream is my will to work hard and never give up. And I am fine with only transferring this to my current dream.

Thank you for bearing with me until the end!

Dreamy days and nights!
